Dealing a severe blow to Congress, senior leader Kapil Sibal resigned from the party and on Wednesday filed nomination for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha election as an independent candidate from Uttar Pradesh. He is being backed by Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP).
